From accidental email sends to embarrassing auto-fill mishaps, attendees will have the opportunity to laugh, relate, and learn from these real-life experiences.
Rationale:
While privacy is undoubtedly a critical issue in today’s digital age, it’s essential not to lose sight of the lighter side of things. This panel provides a refreshing break from the more intense discussions of the conference, allowing attendees to unwind, connect with one another, and gain valuable insights in a relaxed setting. By sharing relatable stories, we aim to foster a sense of camaraderie among attendees and demonstrate that privacy is not always about doom and gloom but can also be a source of humor and camaraderie.

Karla's leadership extends beyond her professional sphere, as evidenced by her active involvement in initiatives like the Model African Union, in Bayreuth, Germany, where she served as Head of Culture.
Born of German-Zimbabwean heritage, Karla bridges cultures seamlessly, enriching her approach to leadership with a global perspective. Having worked at the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office at Radboud University, the Netherlands, Karla has demonstrated her dedication to creating equitable environments.
Additionally, she has successfully completed an online short course on Advanced Project Management with the University of Cape Town UCT, South Africa, further enhancing her project management skills. Recently invited to speak at the 6th Privacy Symposium Africa, Karla's versatile skill set and ability to navigate complex topics make her a valuable asset to any discussion.

As an information management scientist, Pieter works at the crossroads of information privacy (#PrivOps) and information governance (#infogov).
He applies theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. Pieter has a wealth of experience in information governance, especially on topics related to data governance, data privacy and the various legal and regulatory frameworks, such as POPIA/PAIA, GDPR and King IV. He is enthusiastic about aligning existing business processes with information governance and data privacy frameworks, thereby reducing risk and finding sustainable value-creating opportunities for the organization.
Currently, Pieter is the Group Chief Privacy Officer, leading the data privacy operations - #PrivOps team and implementing the information governance and privacy framework within Discovery Ltd - a global, integrated financial services organisation that uses a groundbreaking Shared-value Insurance model across businesses to achieve our core purpose of making people healthier and enhancing and protecting their lives.
Pieter is also a Board member of the Certified Information Governance Officers Association (CIGO), and a Council Member of Information Governance ANZ (InfoGANZ).

Desmond Israel is a lawyer and data privacy/information security practitioner specializing in cyber laws, global data privacy, open-source intelligence gathering, and technology policy research, with over a decade and a half of industry experience in cybersecurity across countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
He is a Consulting Partner with Legal Afrique Unlimited and also founded Information Security Architects Ltd (Rapid7 Gold Partner) in Ghana. Desmond is a GW Law Merit Scholar with an LL.M. (National Security and Cybersecurity) from George Washington University. He is passionate about the convergence between technology, law, and policy. He has numerous data privacy and cybersecurity industry-recognized certifications and volunteers as a Lead Researcher for Guardian Safety Framework for the Metaverse with XR Safety Initiative (XRSI) in California.
He is an Associate with Child Online Africa and was a Fellow with the Center for AI and Digital Policy and the Internet Security Alliance in the United States of America. Memberships: Ghana Bar Association, ISC2, IAPP, ISOC-SIG(Cyber security and Online Safety) and IIPGH.
